TRANSIMOG: The Ultimate Van for Adventure
TRANSIMOG: A Van Like No Other
When passion meets engineering ingenuity, the result is often spectacular. Meet the TRANSIMOG—a Ford Transit Mk7 transformed into a powerhouse of off-road capability and full-time livability. Let’s dive into the story behind this incredible van.
The Dream: From Transit to TRANSIMOG
It all began with a simple Ford Transit Mk7 minibus. Its owners envisioned a life on the road, stripping the van of its seats and turning it into a blank slate for adventure. The early days were raw—just a mattress and the open road. Over time, the van evolved to suit their lifestyle and ever-changing needs.
Off-Road Readiness: Key Upgrades
Living off-grid meant accessing remote locations, and the van’s initial setup didn’t quite cut it. To boost off-road capabilities, the TRANSIMOG was fitted with mud tires and a new suspension system, increasing ground clearance to an impressive 21 inches. The engine was swapped for a 3.2L 5-cylinder Euro 4, paired with a hybrid turbocharger to deliver 270bhp and 650Nm of torque. These upgrades transformed it into a reliable off-road companion.
A sturdy steel bumper was also added, offering extra protection during tough terrains and even proving its worth in a low-speed collision with a truck.
Inside the TRANSIMOG: A Rolling Home
Beyond its rugged exterior, the TRANSIMOG boasts a cozy interior. Equipped with a wood stove, ample storage, and sleeping space, it is designed for full-time living. The interior blends functionality with comfort, ensuring its owners can enjoy long-term travel without compromise.
What Sets the TRANSIMOG Apart?
- Powerful 3.2L engine with a hybrid turbo for off-road performance.
- 21 inches of ground clearance for accessing remote trails.
- Super Singles with 285/75/16 tires for maximum grip.
- Durable steel bumper for added protection.
- Fully functional interior for full-time van life.
Future Plans for the TRANSIMOG
The journey of this Ford Transit isn’t over. Plans include fitting a subframe spacer for even greater ground clearance and adding an Eaton E-locker to the rear axle for improved traction. With these enhancements, the TRANSIMOG is set to reach new heights in capability.
