Ford Transit is available in many different versions of the body style, the most popular of them is the cargo van and the passenger van later named Tourneo. Ford Transit is the third best-selling van in the world. For now, over 8,000,000 Ford Transit vans have been produced and sold.

The first generation of Ford Transit was called Ford Taunus Transit and was initially offered only in Western Europe and Australia. For more than forty years Ford Transit is the best-selling commercial vehicle in Europe. After introduction of the new model on the market, the American Ford Transit quickly turned out to be the best-selling commercial vehicle in the United States. In USA, Ford Transit provides 57 percent share of Ford in the commercial vehicle market. Parts for Ford Transit are manufactured in Turkey, China and even Poland.

Ford Transit is also several times winner of the Van of the Year (2001, 2007) and in its smaller versions of the Transit Custom and Transit Connect also won the title of Van of the Year in 2013 and 2014.
